Petition to ask SEGA for Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown on Steam!

With the surprise announcement of SEGA’s third person shooter Binary Domain heading to Steam, SEGAbits member Pao/Riki has taken it on himself to start a petition for Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown for Steam too.

Anything that can help boost the potential sales for Virtua Fighter whilst allowing the core gameplay and style to stay intact is a-ok to me.

With no other major fighting game released on the PC for some time now, this could be great boost for the series’ popularity so if you happen to be a Steam user who wants to get your voice heard to get one of the best fighting games available on PC, then sign the petition!

Petition is here!

Rumor – Pai and Sarah also to appear in DOA5? (Warning Spoilers Ahead)

Though the demo was just released with Ninja Gaiden 3, intrepid hackers have already blown the Dead or Alive 5 code wide open to take a peek at what may be hiding below the surface. While there aren’t any full character materials, a NeoGAF user by the name of Sectus discovered a wide array of alternate costume data, which may hint at the final cast selection.

It would seem much of the Dead or Alive 4 cast is returning to this installment, along with new characters Mila and Rig. Also, Virtua Fighters Sarah Bryant and Pai Chan will be joining Akira Yuki as crossover guests. The full list is as follows:

Pai
Sarah
Akira
Mila
Rig
Bayman
Hitomi
Christie
Brad
Lisa
Eliot
Ayane
Lei Fang
Hayate
Kokoro
Bass
Leon

Very late to the party, but here is the trailer you have all probably seen by now. Who'd have thought DOA would ever be featured here?

Starting on November 8th, Version A Revision 1 of Final Showdown will be on test at Ikebukero GIGO, Club Sega Akihabara, and Club Sega Nishi-Shinjuku until the official release of the game. For now the new update doesn't seem to be another major revision as much as it is balancing things and adding more items for customization. Oh and new costumes! Don't quote me on it though. Hit the jump to read the changes to the game found by VFDC.

Final Showdown Trademark Registered for Consoles

Originally posted by Hayama Akito at SRK, according to Game Nyarth it appears that SEGA have registered the trademark FINAL SHOWDOWN for consoles:

2010-056172 FINAL SHOWDOWN

Is this a sign that Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown is, finally, heading to consoles? Or, is this a totally new IP which coincidentally shares the same name as the latest VF5 release? Will there be further news at the upcoming Tokyo Game Show?

Time will only tell...

First Final Showdown Tier List according to October Arcadia Magazine

The October issue of Arcadia magazine just hit the newsstands today, and comes with a comprehensive breakdown of the revamped system, as well as preliminary frame data and character strategies for the entire cast.

On top of that, the magazine has put together a preliminary tier list, which you can find below. Since the game has only been available for a month, the tiers will definitely change, but the popular opinion is that the big three listed by Arcadia will be hard to dethrone, even after a year or so of play.

Here are the current tiers according to Arcadia:

S Rank: Shun, Lau, Akira
A Rank: Lion, Kage, Goh, Brad, Sarah, Wolf
B Rank: Jean, Pai, Vanessa, Aoi, Taka-arashi, Eileen
C Rank: Blaze, Jacky, Jeffry, Lei-Fei

Bayonetta gets Virtua Fighter theme for Xbox 360

Sega has been doing excellent with their partnership with Platinum Games. Thanks to their cooperation Bayonetta is said to have a VF reference in the Bayonetta premium theme for the Xbox 360. There is a SDI throwback as well.

The theme costs about 3 bucks and I have to say, DO WANT! I'm glad Platinum Games thought it would be nice to throw a ref out to us VF fans. See more shots of the theme at the Sega Nerds Blog

Virtua Fighter 5R Version B Officially Out!

Version B officially hit arcades March 21st, and even though I'm a bit late reporting it.. it's still pretty big news. Why is Version B such a big deal? Well among a few aesthetic changes it has a new camera system similiar to that of VF3 where characters are closer to the screen for more detail. Version B also features balance changes and new animations for some moves.

Also for the launch of VF5R Ver B Sega added new customizable items to the list. Lookie there! Sarah as Ulala, Frekin Amigo is on El Blaze's shoulder and a Virtual On inspired Jeffry? Well done... well done indeed.

Namco wants to make Virtua Fighter vs Tekken

The Tekken 6 director (Katsuhiro Harada) says there will be many difficulties in making the game, but he is very much interested. He said this in a recent interview:

“The truth is that I have been working to fulfill this dream from over ten years ago,” Harada replied, when asked if such a game could happen. “There were several occasions on which it came close to realization. Opinions may vary, but I have wanted to do this for a long time. Therefore, the chance is not zero. It is possible. However, there would be many difficulties during actual development. First off, which team would develop it? I have some ideas for the controls and fighting system. Some parts have even been tested. It’s really up to the fans and whether they want it. If you have opinions about this, please send them to me!”

In my opinion the games play so differently they would have to make a whole new game entirely. In which case they should seriously just make SEGA vs Namco, developed by both AM2 and Namco with characters from Virtua Fighter, Fighting Vipers, Last Bronx, Eternal Champions, Tekken and Soul Calibur, and some others thrown in for good measure (Sonic Vs Klonoa?)

So what do you guys think about Harada’s dream? Would you want to play a Virtua Fighter vs Tekken game?

New version of Virtua Fighter 5R coming

Sega has announced that at their Yappa Sasobi Fest ‘09, there will be a new version of Virtua Fighter 5R available for demo. The company has made it clear on the official Virtua Fighter website that this is not the version that was on location test in several arcades last week, but rather a wholly new version of the game, complete with new title screen. This should be the upcoming version B of the game, but until Sega makes a formal announcement, everyone will just have to wait and see.

The demo will be free of charge to play, however players cannot use their existing IC cards with this demo, and there will be a win streak limit enforced. Yappa Asobi Festa 09 runs from March 14 - 15, at the TFT Building in Tokyo.

Edit (1:00pm)
Sega also updated VF.net with their official list of Star Players, who are recognized as the very best players in the country. It seems that Sega will be doing this on a regular basis, but we’ll see how this works out, as this listing is entirely up to Sega, and not based on any rankings of any sort.

☆Star Players☆(As of March 2nd)
Chibita / ちび太 (Lion)
Fuumin / ふ~みん (Lei Fei)
Fuudo / ふ~ど (Lion)
Koedo / こえど (Jean)
Gorgeous / ゴージャス (Eileen)
Yuucha★/ ゆうちゃ★ (Aoi)
Shindo Jacky / 新道ジャッキー (Lau)
